NEVA & OGDEN Cooperation

Ogden Group is an international group of manufacturers and distributors, including Ogden Sales, RfsProtech, and Neva. In the late 90's, Ogden Sales and Neva began to work cooperatively to share knowledge and resources in the field of thin-cutting technology. In 2006, RfsProtech, a world renowned manufacturer of High Frequency Presses and Gluers for the high speed curing of wood joined our team. The three companies have combined their vast engineering and manufacturing resources to offer their systems jointly from their facilities in the USA and the Czech Republic. With our integration and shared technologies, we can together offer complete manufacturing solutions to companies within the wood product industry.

Rfs-Protech

RfsProtech is a worldwide manufacturer of radio frequency edge, face and laminating glue systems with over 2,000 presses currently in operation worldwide. In recent years we have established a strong presence in Scandinavia market with some of the top manufacturers of window and door components, laminated beams and log homes. We produce a wide variety of High Frequency Edge and Face Glue Presses and Gluers for the high speed curing of wood.

The SB series of Slat Bed gluers are heavy duty laminators and edge gluers with a slat bed conveyor construction for high production of edge gluing and laminating. The slat bed design allows for material to be loaded onto the in feed conveyor in front of the press during the curing cycle of the load within the press. When the cure cycle is finished, the top platen is raised and the slat bed conveyor which extends through the entire machine transports the next load into the press area and simultaneously discharges the cured and finished load. Machine features include hydraulic side pressure, hydraulic top pressure and 150 or 200 kW free standing generators to rapidly cure approximately 9.67m²/min 4,640 m² of glue line per shift. This makes the SB model by far the fastest system for curing edge glued boards or laminated components. The Slat Bed Gluer can be made in various widths, lengths and heights; for example 6 m long, 1.3 m wide and up to 300 mm high.

The SB models can be equipped to process window components with profiles. A simple counter profile is installed on the top platen applying even pressure to the various wood components during the curing cycle. This counter profile ensures that the profiled parts are perfectly even and without any miss alignment. Our machines can be manufactured with fully automated in-feed compiling systems that allow for the load to be assembled in front of the press during the curing cycle.

Once the load in the press is cured the press opens, and as the load is being discharged on the out feed table, a new load is being fed into the press. The system is fast and efficient. We are also able to manufacture in-feed and out-feed systems to meet the customer’s production requirements.

The EG Edge Glue Series manufactured by RfsProtech is a heavy-duty, high frequency edge gluer and laminator. The EG Edge Gluer clamps and cures components up to a 300mm thickness, pneumatically or hydraulically. The EG Series of machines are manufactured with generators up to 50 kW, and provide consistent and high speed curing of wood in applications including door stiles and rails, window, laminated beams, furniture and stair components. Standard size in this series is 1300 mm x 2500mm, but the system can be customized according to a customer’s needs - up to 6000 mm in length.

RfsProtech also produces Veneer Forming Systems. These are used in the manufacturing of radial components for industries including windows, doors and cabinets. The PT series of machines ends the need for fixtures and forms for the pressing and laminating of veneers into half-round, arch and elliptical shapes. The elimination of making forms allows for quick and easy set-up of custom parts. Systems are available with a variety of curing methods including RF, conduction heat bands and cold press. The PT systems can also come with manual setup of the form arms or can come with fully CNC controlled forms which position automatically according to the half-round, arch and/or elliptical shape entered into the computer controls.

Neva

NEVA is a manufacturer of thin-cutting frame saws and band saws for companies world-wide who are producing veneer lamellas/slats. Ever since building our first frame saw in the early 80's, we have invested a significant amount of time in the research and development of frame saw technology. Through the years, Neva has worked to develop and refine a machine to cut solid wood blocks into glueable lamellas with a minimum of waste from saw kerf.

The Neva frame saw uses multiple, thin, stellite saw blades, as thin as 0.9 mm; these move up and down as the wood block feeds through the machine. The rapid, reciprocating blades produce an ideal surface for face-glueing. In recent years, Neva and Ogden have worked jointly on a patented orbital movement for the frame saw. The Orbit Frame Saw uses an unique up/down method of movement for cutting veneer lamella. Unlike conventional frame saws that move up and down in a lineal motion, the Orbit uses a patented swing out motion at the bottom of the saw stroke. During the down stroke of the saw frame, the cutting motion is perfectly lineal. At the bottom of the stroke, the saw frame swings out of the cut in the same direction that the wood is moving. Once the saw frame has retracted out of the cut, the frame travels back to the top, remaining out of contact with the wood during the entire upward motion. The saw frame then, once again, begins its lineal downward cutting motion.

This unique movement has several distinct advantages over the frame movement on older conventional frame saws. With a conventional frame saw, a great deal of heat is generated by saw dust that is captured/packed into and around the saw blade teeth. This occurs because the saw dust and wood chips are unable to clear out from the blade during the upstroke. This fact is especially true when cutting wide material as the blades may never exit the top or bottom of the lumber. Because the orbit machine's saw blades move out of the cut during the upstroke, wood chips and saw dust fall clear from the saw blades. The result is less heat build up on the saw blades, longer saw blade life, dust free lamellas, and the ability to use thinner kerf saw blades.

All of Neva's frame saws are built using a sturdy, solid cast-iron base, use cast iron carriage frames and are equipped minimally with a 15kW main motor. The increased horsepower and sturdier parts make a significant difference in the energy that is conserved, allows for a smoother running machine and a longer machine life (especially when processing large volumes of wood simultaneously).

Since the development of our very first machine, we have built them to split in the middle. This system was developed to make it easier and safer for the operator to remove and mount the saw frame in and out of the machine.

On all of Neva's frame saws, the feed rolls on the bottom are driven. Some of the feed rollers on the top are also driven. The top and bottom driven rollers allow for a smooth feeding of the wood, without the wood hanging up. Adjustment of the top feed rollers on the Neva machines is made automatically. To make an adjustment of the top feed rollers from one height to another the operator simply presses a button on the control panel and moves the rollers electronically up or down. This system is the same system that is used on molding machines. The automatic height adjustment takes only a few seconds. On other systems, each set of top idle rollers has to be adjusted manually via a wrench. This manual adjustment can take as long as 10 minutes depending on how big the change in height is.
